The witches Aria and Brianna had two different ways of approaching situations.
One day, Brianna was on a journey and came upon an obstacle in her path. A wall stood in the way of her and her destination.
"Ah!" she cried, "A wall! Would that I were able to pass through it as the wind passes through the trees. But such an act would take powerful magicks, powers that I do not have! My passage is barred!"
Dejected and angry, she walked away from the wall to a nearby tavern to wax mournfully of her plight.
Meanwhile, Aria happened to be on the same path and came upon the same wall, barring her passage further on.
"Hmmm," she noted, "This wall bars passage forward. I must find a way past it."
She went off to a nearby grove of trees and performed a small ritual asking for the assistance of the gods and spirits. As she finished her rite and opened the circle, her eyes alighted on a tree that lay upon the ground. Light enough to drag, but strong enough to support her weight, she carried it to the wall and used it to overcome the obstacle in her path. Unfortunately, she managed to tear her favorite cloak in the process. Nonetheless, she gave thanks to the gods and spirits once more and continued on her journey.
Upon returning from her quest, she stopped in the same tavern that Brianna was in. Brianna was shocked to see Aria had managed to successfully get past the wall and questioned her furtively on the manner in which she overcame the obstacle. Aria explained that the gods answered her prayers with a tree that she used to climb over the wall.
"But, that's not magick!" exclaimed Brianna. "That's just plain luck."
Aria shrugged, "Whatever it was, I am simply glad that I got what I desired."
Brianna nodded sagely and turned back to her pint of ale, commenting, "It's too bad you're not as powerful a witch as I. Together we might have gathered the energy to simply step through the wall as though it were not there, and you would not have torn your cloak moving that horrible tree."
Aria shook her head, "If only."
With that, Aria bid her friend farewell and went home to repair her cloak.
