After deciding, for SURE that I wasn't going to burning man...

I had a dream about it last night.

I went and I had an amazing time.

Sure, in the dream, I arrived late and left early. And I kept to myself a lot.

But it was so much fun, what I did do.

So today I bought a ticket.

I'm going.

Hee! Yay! ^_^

I'm considering staying to the end this time. We left early last year because I was overloaded.

I think you'll really enjoy it. It's not too hard to get away from people most of the time.

So... Only one important question remains. Will you bring the Go board or shall I? :)

I have a beater board and stones that I can bring...

Or, for the sake of Burning Man, I could bust out the nice set...

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I think however it's important not to sweep what we talked about under the rug; facing your anxieties head-on can be empowering but it can also take a lot out of you. Not to mention that anxieties aren't really rational to begin with...

...but it is also very possible to have low-key time to yourself on the edge of the playa which is still saturated in the beautiful Burning Man energy, too. :)

and yes: this was the plan all along. ;)

What I dreamt about last night was all about how to take care of myself at burn: Go for a shorter time, keep to myself a lot, and just be very sensitive to my needs. :)

Sensible. I'm sure you'll have a marvelous time.

I confess that I found BM energy really hard for me to work with. Too... humany.

Which is precisely what I'm worried that I will go to and experience unpleasantly.

I'm hoping to find the fae in all of that. And barring that... just hang out by myself and enjoy the company of friends in a strange environment. :)

Yeah, that's what I did.

You know, I think Jenny and I were talking about camping near one another. I bet they wouldn't have any problems with you joining us. Make our own little village.

Also, is the floating jellyfish tent thing looking do-able?

Engineering wise, Stacey still thinks it will work but it's definitely not a project we're going to do for this year.

By that, do you mean energy which emanates from bipeds instead of the self/nature/spirits? Or energy which emanates from bipeds who identify as "human" instead of fae/otherkin?

For me, those who go to Burning Man are more awakened, more alive, and generally operate on a higher and better level than humanity as a whole. I've found that the energy from burner humans at BM is far less different from fae energy, compared to boring everyday humans. It is still human energy, but concentrated and distilled, from people who are unafraid to push their own limits and generally have the best to offer.

Hmm... I'm expecting most of the "burners" to be middle to upper class white folks that are full of privilege and mostly filling their lives with empty expenditures of money they label as "art" in order to feel good about how different, extraordinary, and unique they are.

I'm expecting a lot of what I normally see at a rave, really... A bunch of people that are looking for the experience of enlightenment and freedom and nonconformity without actually doing any of the work to actually have it.

It seems odd to have a gathering of Special Snowflakes in the middle of the desert in summer... :)

Glad you decided to go, though, and that you're taking care of yourself.

That many Special Snowflakes in one place can change at least local weather patterns. ^_~

Jon and I both expected that going into rave culture. On the final weekend when the man burns, there is some of that, but in general, a lot of the people there are hippie types. A lot of people who hitchhike in, people who are there at the graces of their friends, etc.

The entire idea of Burning Man is decadence and a gift economy though. Those who have and can give are supposed to be generous to everyone else. It's pretty neat to watch really.

I'm not expecting much, but look forward to being pleasantly surprised to find that I'm wrong. :)

Hmm. Hard to explain. Sort of what it feels like going to a carnival or DisneyWorld. There is plenty of magic and wonder but it's a very festive and gay sort of energy. My nature is more... naturey. Well. More like rocks, trees, and slow-moving rivers.

It isn't bad, it's just alien to me.
